The Voice in the Shrouded in Mist – a Poem by David Graham

Where is the light

for which I am told

to fight,

I’m looking all around

but see only a shrouded mist,

no hint of future bliss.

Why won’t someone

shout my name,

tell me which way to go,

is it because

no one knows,

are we all trapped in

the eternal mist,

locked in an endless struggle

to find the way to bliss.

Are we? Is it true?

If it is

speak up,

tell me why we are trapped here

in this abyss.

You can’t

because I can’t hear you

and you can’t hear me.

But then is that true?

What if we can’t hear each other

because we are all waiting

to hear each other?

Is that why we are all trapped

in the shrouded mist,

waiting for the voice

to save us from the abyss.

Is it because we are silent?

And are we all staying silent in the

hopes of hearing the voice

that will give us the future of choice,

forgetting that we

have the power to bring

it to us,

the power to batter

back the mist,

find the bliss

if only we shout

out loud,

be that voice in the

shrouded mist,

and let people know

that we exist?

Are we forgetting that we have the right

to do this, to fight and exist?

Are we?

Thanks for reading, I truly hope you enjoyed my poem! This was inspired by how many people are staying silent through fear of how they will be judged for their words, and the need to combat that fear so that all of us can once again speak and be heard.
