“David Graham’s music inspires his listeners to power onwards, moving forward through life, pushing past the naysayers.”
Essentially Pop on David Graham’s album, Insanity vs Reality
David Graham has been a big fan of songwriting ever since he first started playing the guitar at 18. In his youth, he was always playing with lyrics and coming up with new tunes on the guitar. Then in his early twenties, he suffered a bad wrist injury to both wrists, then in his early thirties, those injuries got a lot worse, and for a period during Covid-19 he lost complete use of both of his hands.
The doctors said he wouldn’t get use back, but through extreme hard work he managed to get decent use back.
However, he was unable to recover the ability to play the guitar or any musical instruments, but still retained the desire to write lyrics and create songs, a desire that was reignited by the birth of AI music creation. He signed up to Suno AI, and started creating.
The lyrics he uses are all his own, and more often than not he uses his own musical inspiration to inspire the outputs. This may involve him humming or singing the kind of tune wanted, or it may involve him using old guitar beats saved on his computer.
The type of music he loves to create is music with a story behind it, a quote of his explains it best, “I love to write a powerful evocative story, and try to bring it to life with music, the kind with real feeling behind it.”
His main genre is pop rock, but he sometimes branches out into other genres, like soft rock, R&B along with others.
He is a true believer that music is the language of emotion, and hopes to create music that evokes emotion in people. Whether that be uplifting, motivational, poignant, or his favourite, the kind that makes you fight for your dreams, and believe you have what it takes to realise them.
His most popular track to date is his pop-rock song If You Just Stay, which made it to number one on SubmitHub’s three-day and seven-day Hot or Not charts. Critics praised this song as having a strong hook, a distinctive tonal signature, and great vocals and guitar play.
Other popular songs of his are Believe, which is an uplifting song that he wrote as a message to his younger self, telling himself to not give up. You Are Beautiful, which is a poignant song talking about his time being bullied, and Dreaming of the Day, which is a song inspired by a tough parting of ways.
A dream of his is to find a way to start playing instruments again, and find a real singer to go in place of the AI, so that the music he creates carries an even more powerful emotional punch.
He has over half a dozen singles out, and an album, Insanity vs Reality, which received some great press on release.
Bored City on David’s album:
“The storytelling is personal, sometimes direct, sometimes quiet, but always human. […] The soundscape is cinematic and warm, with layered arrangements that let each song breathe.”
Essentially Pop on David’s album:
“David Graham takes the spirit of defiance and pits it against doubt, and over the course of 11 songs covers such themes as battling adversity, embracing self-confidence, and refusing to surrender to even the harshest of life’s harshest blows.”
We Write About Music on David’s album:
“Each track feels like a letter written across time, sometimes to his younger self, sometimes to anyone standing at the edge of self-doubt, wondering whether the fight is worth it. […] It’s the sound of an artist who has stared down limitation, pain, and doubt, and responded not with resignation, but with resolve. Framed as a pop record but driven by so many other sounds and styles, the album unfolds like a personal manifesto.”
