David Graham has been a lover of fiction all his life. One of his best memories from school was in English class being tasked with writing a fictional story based on parameters given by the teacher. He was tasked with writing three chapters, but ended up writing nine.
However, due to difficulties at school, he left with little education and any thoughts of writing fiction were lost, which led him to take up a degree in Finance and Investment Management at university.
But that degree changed everything for him. He used his loan to invest in the stock markets, and during the years 2008 to 2010, turned £7,000 into £50,000, and he documented his journey on a blog which he entitled Gray’s Investment Blog.
It became a highly followed blog, and writing it rekindled his love for writing so much so he started writing fiction again, which was actually a challenge because in 2008, he suffered the severe wrist injury that would go on to blight his life.
This wrist injury eventually led to the closing of his investment blog, but he managed to find a way to recover, and his love for writing fiction was so strong, he enlisted on a second university degree. English Literature and Creative Writing, a journey which he began in 2011.
He won his first writing competition in 2011 when his short story, A Chill Ripples through Newcastle Keep, took first place in the Newcastle Book Festival Short Story competition 2011. He won his second writing competition in 2013, when his short story, The Want for a Kiss, won the Celia Romantic Short Story, 2013 (his winning entry can be listened to here).
He won his third writing competition in 2020 when his poem, The Loan Shark, was one of the seven winners in Stop Loan Sharks national writing competition of 2020. He has also been shortlisted numerous times in other short story and writing competitions, some of which were internationally open competitions.
At present, he has one self-published e-book. A novelette entitled Terror on the Mind, which he published on 3 April 2023. It is an exclusive Kindle Unlimited e-book, and briefly made Amazon’s top 100 downloaded espionage short stories list.
He also has a number of short stories available for reading, and in 2026, he will be releasing his first novel, Scorched Earth: The Library of Power, which he will be self-publishing.
