The Monster Within – a Poem by David Graham

It eats away at you,

the monster within,

day by day you try,

but you just can’t win,

life turns to night,

day fades away,

the monster within,

it fights to have its way,

you try to hold on,

but you fear its ire,

it’s locked on to you,

hurt its only desire,

the monster within,

you can’t escape,

so just step back,

accept your fate.

Never.

Thanks for reading, I truly hope you enjoyed my poem! This was inspired by my battles with mental health over the years. For any suffering with a monster within, remember to never let it beat you, and most of all, remember that you have the power to defeat it once and for all. You just have to believe.

  1. Nicely written! 👏 ✍️ Thankfully my monster has been in hiding for coming up to 4 years! (Mostly) 😁 used to suffer with bad anxiety that would cripple me! Thanks for sharing your words.

    1. Thanks, really appreciate the support! Glad to hear you have overcome your monster, and are keeping it at bay, long may it continue!
