I started my journey as a professional writer back in 2008. I was studying Finance & Investment Management at Northumbria University, and as part of that I Set up an investment blog called Gray’s Investment Blog where I would write up company reports, detail my investment journey, and offer my thoughts and opinions on the investment world.

The blog ended up gaining a sizeable following, with thousands of views per article. I also managed to transform £7000 into £50,000 between 2008 and 2010, all of which I documented. Because of this, I was invited to become a contributor on Stockopedia – a renowned investment website – which further increased my readership numbers.

This led my articles to be posted on the Bloomsburg newsfeed amongst others.

However, I was not enjoying writing about the stock market, I really wanted to be writing fiction.

All my life, I have loved writing fiction, even as a child I would write stories, and my greatest memory of secondary school is where, in English class, over the course of several weeks we had to write a story.

We were given the theme and genre, you are in the desert and have only a desert buggy to get around, and though I can’t remember the exact details of the story that I wrote, I can remember the image I had in my head of the desert buggy in the desert, and I can remember that I wrote nine chapters, when we only had to write three. I wrote them all using a fountain pen, with blue ink.

I can even vividly recall the image in my mind of me sitting there in the back right-hand corner, next to the window, actually enjoying being in class, and it is the only memory I have of ever enjoying being in any class at secondary school. Just those several weeks working on that story.

So, writing fiction has always been my love, it just got lost amongst the troubles I had at school. Writing about the stock markets helped me find it again, and when I was forced to stop writing about the stock markets because of my wrist injuries, I enlisted on a degree at university, English literature and Creative Writing, so that I could start on the path to pursuing my love of writing fiction.

My injury issues meant that it took me a long time – over a decade – to master the craft of writing fiction, and of writing well in general, but hopefully I’ve got there and people enjoy what I create.
